Hello, I'm very fascinated by what's going on here and speaking as a non-scientist who just watches this stuff because of being a nerd, I have an idea. Again, I'm not actually a science person, but my thought, which you may end up hating due to how involved it would be to debunk, is in regard to the possibility that the randomness for when the powder explodes is related perhaps to cosmic rays. My reason for thinking this is that as you explained, the reaction from heating is causing molecules to unfold into a longer chain form, And this may result in a weird situation where cosmic rays are smashing the ends of molecule chains together, triggering a chain reaction maybe? Now I'm no expert, but I imagine a setup for testing this would involve heating a tray of the material with a alcohol vapor setup or something similar above it to see if you can correlate the point of ignition with the passage of cosmic rays. I understand if the thought of testing something like this seems rather daunting, but I would love to see the data, and even if you feel I'm wrong in my hypothesis, I would like to hear your thoughts.
